Even though India has an unstoppable 3-1 lead over England in the five-match series, there is still debate over KL Rahul‘s fitness and Jasprit Bumrah’s workload before the fifth and final Test match. KL Rahul Doubtful for Fifth Test, Flown to London for Specialist Opinion

But it’s possible that India won’t be able to retain KL Rahul’s services given the lengthy absence. For the fifth Test, the seasoned right-hander is still unsure. Rahul has reportedly been flown to London to get an expert opinion since he is still suffering soreness in his right quadriceps, the same ailment that prevented him from playing in the second, third, and fourth Tests of the series, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

After recovering from a right quadriceps injury, Rahul, who made an 86 in the first Test in Hyderabad, has been a student at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Interestingly, Rahul had surgery on the identical ailment the previous year.

Although some with knowledge of the situation maintain that Rahul’s injury is not that significant, the management and physiotherapists are unwilling to take any risks given his significance to the squad in both Tests and ODIs, as well as his dual function as a keeper.

The last game for India before to the IPL will be the Dharamsala Test. Rahul will undoubtedly play for the Lucknow Super Giants in the league, which begins on March 22. However, as India leads England 3-1 in the Test series, the 31-year-old may be allowed additional time to get back to full health.

If Rahul is out of the India vs. England fifth test, then who will play?

But this does make one wonder a little bit about NCA’s handling of injuries. Rahul “regained 90% fitness,” according to a BCCI press statement before to the third Test. However, shockingly, he was unable to reach the last 10% of fitness until the fourth Test, and it is doubtful that he will again.

In the event that Rahul is ruled out of the Dharamsala Test match, Devdutt Padikkal may get an opportunity. The temptation would be to stick with Rajat Patidar, who hasn’t shown much in his three Test matches so far, but it could be wise to give the left-hander a chance in the middle order.

Regarding Bumrah, he is probably going to rejoin the team. To control his workload, the pace ace rested for the fourth Test. It is possible to rest a few batters and bowers who have been playing the whole series. It is unclear who it is—Ravichandran Ashwin or Shubamn Gill.
