In the first Test match against South Africa, India lost an innings-by-innings decision despite Rohit Sharma‘s 5 and 0 scores in both innings.

Virat Kohli’s Lone Stand: A Glimmer in India’s Dark Day

In a depressing performance at Centurion, Team India collapsed for just 131 in the inaugural Test’s second innings, and they now face an innings and 32 run loss to South Africa on Thursday. Day 3’s dull effort by the visitors was summed up by Virat Kohli, who, with his 76 off 82 deliveries, was the batting order’s saviour. He scored more than half of India’s runs in the second innings.

India was taken aback by the pitch’s erratic bounce and overpowered by the game’s unrelenting tempo. South Africa now holds a commanding 1-0 lead in the two-match series as a result of this emphatic loss, effectively ending India’s hopes of winning a Test series in South Africa.

Rohit Sharma’s Disappointing Return: World Cup Hangover?

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, returned to the team for the first time this series following the World Cup final defeat, and it appears that his team’s disappointment at failing to cross the finish line last month is still with them. In the Test, Rohit himself had a lackluster performance, scoring 5 and 0 in each of the two innings. The manner in which India lost the first Test surprised many since they are a very formidable side in the longest format. However, Rohit feels it would be unfair to draw parallels between the pain of the World Cup final and the defeat against the Proteas.

During the post-match press conference, Rohit said that it wouldn’t be wise to compare the matches because each one has its own special place. “The Test series and the World Cup cannot be compared.” It goes without saying that winning this Test series would be fantastic, and it will be a remarkable accomplishment for us. However, it’s still the World Cup. Both are separate in my books,” Rohit remarked.

World Cup Woes: Rohit Acknowledges Disheartening Loss

“A loss is a loss, period. Whether it is a World Cup loss or anything like (against South Africa), losses are always disheartening. However, the weighting of the two competitions is very different. I find it difficult to relate this World Cup loss to this.

“You attempt to go on. You have a chance in Cape Town where, if we take advantage of it, we can make things better.”

On January 3, the second test will start. After the visit, India will play a T20I series against Afghanistan to start their home season after playing five Tests against England.
