The Indian men’s doubles badminton pair, consisting of the talented duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have recently achieved a significant milestone in their career.
After their triumph at the 2022 Badminton Asia Championship, they have regained their career-best ranking of world no. 5, which is a remarkable feat in itself. Their historic victory ended a 58-year drought in Indian badminton, as they became the first Indian pair, after Dinesh Khanna, to win the continental championship.
In the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, Satwik and Chirag have climbed up one spot and secured their position at fifth place.
The final match against the Malaysian pair of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi was a thrilling display of their skills and determination, which ultimately led to their impressive victory. Moreover, in the men’s doubles category, Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun have also shown significant progress by ascending four spots and securing a ranking of 23 in the world.
Moving on to the men’s singles category, HS Prannoy has maintained his ninth position, while Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen have risen one spot each to occupy 22nd and 23rd place, respectively. Mithun Manjunath has also displayed a commendable performance by jumping five positions and securing the 41st spot.
In the women’s singles category, PV Sindhu slipped to world no. 12, which is a bit disappointing for her fans. However, Tanya Hemanth has shown an impressive improvement by securing the 55th spot. Lastly, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, the women’s doubles pair, have showcased their prowess by rising two positions and achieving a ranking of world no. 17.
