Ishan Kishan reacts to the Ranji Trophy drama and losing out on a BCCI contract, saying “Many things are not in the hands of players.”

“Ishan’s Redemption: From Central Contract Loss to IPL Triumph

Ishan Kishan was in the news before to IPL 2024 because the batsman-wickekeeper for the BCCI lost his central contract after failing to win the Ranji Trophy. The incident occurred when the board warned centrally contracted players not to put the Indian Premier League ahead of domestic cricket. Kishan and Shreyas Iyer disregarded the letter, and as a result, they were punished severely by the BCCI.

Since then, Kishan has made a comeback to the IPL in 2024 and has been instrumental in the Mumbai Indians’ success this year. After losing their first three games, the Hardik Pandya-led team has won their last two games.

Following MI’s victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday, Kishan was questioned about his break from the game. Kishan responded to the uproar by saying, “I was just practicing. People were chatting a lot when I stepped away from the game. A lot happened on social media. However, you should also be aware that a lot of factors are beyond of the players’ control.”

“Your only option is to make effective use of the time. Additionally, keep in mind that even if they were bowling brilliantly, I would never leave a delivery in the first two overs, because to the preceding Ishan. Over time, I’ve come to realize that even 20 overs is a significant game; you can go ahead and take your time. We want to be a cohesive squad even if we have lost games. Things have changed in that I now chat to people even when I’m not performing and even if I know they’re not. I’m curious to know their thoughts. Thus, these are the items that supported me throughout the interval,” he said.

With seven fours and five sixes in his 69 runs off 34 balls against RCB, Kishan helped MI easily chase down a goal of 197 runs, reaching 199/3 in 15.3 overs.

As of right now, Kishan leads MI in run scoring with 161 runs in five games, including a half-century. This season’s unexpected comeback for MI was largely down to him, and he will be looking to improve. If Kishan has a successful IPL 2024 season, he may be chosen for the Indian T20 World Cup team.
